Our Mission

Aotearoa Music Education Trust’s (AMET) purpose is to facilitate music outreach and education in the greater Wellington region, aimed at but not limited to primary and high school students. The Trust encourages the highest level of music making predominantly in the field of classical music in a secure, creative and supportive community environment.

What we do

  • Promote and enable education in the fine arts
  • Maintain and lease instruments to our students
  • Provide scholarships to those who require financial assistance
  • Provide scholarships to those showing outstanding ability and merit
  • Collaborate with local trusts, schools and organizations
  • Host recitals to create performance opportunities for students
  • Summer programmes, music camps, and performances for all New Zealanders

Music is for everyone, and it's our vision to make our programmes accessible to all New Zealanders

Our Funding

The Aotearoa Music Education Trust is supported by private donations and the small fees for instrument rental.

No government funding is received.

The trust is growing rapidly and relies on generous donations to subsidise or cover instrument hire prices as well as expand the instrument library.

AMET was founded by Alanna Jones and Lachlan Radford in 2019 and kickstarted with a successful Boosted campaign which enabled us to purchase eight small double basses. Along with donations of pre-loved instruments, we hit the ground running and have been serving the Wellington region since 2020. In 2023 we nationalised and became Aotearoa Music Education Trust. We now serve all New Zealanders by providing quality instruments for hire, scholarships and performance opportunities.
