WMET Awards

Eligibility and Applications

Piccolo Financial Assistance Award

One term instrument hire and/or;
double bass lessons

Eligible applicants are

  • NZ Resident
  • Primary residence in the Wellington Region
  • Under 18 years old
  • Suffering from financial hardship 
  • Enrolled or planning to enrol in a WMET programme or Piccolo Bass tutor
  • Part of a family that earns less than $54,098-$97,937 depending on your family's size.

Wellington Music Education Trust Financial Assistance Award

One year instrument hire - offered annual only

Eligible applicants are

  • NZ Resident
  • Primary residence in the Wellington Region
  • Under 18 years old
  • Suffering from financial hardship 
  • Enrolled or planning to enrol in a WMET programme or Piccolo Bass tutor
  • Part of a family that earns less than $54,098-$97,937 depending on your family's size.

Piccolo Outstanding Ability Award

One term instrument hire and/or;
double bass lessons

Eligible Applicants are

  • NZ Resident
  • Primary residence in the Wellington Region
  • Under 18 years old
  • Enrolled or planning to enrol in a WMET programme or Piccolo Bass tutor
  • Demonstrates outstanding ability via recorded audition

Recorded audition requirements

  • Two contrasting pieces at any level 
  • Recorded video and audio
  • One complete take
  • Maximum 10 minutes
  • .mp4 .mov formats

  • Under 18 years old
  • Enrolled or planning to enrol in a WMET programme or Piccolo Bass tutor
  • Demonstrates outstanding ability via recorded audition

  • Three contrasting pieces at any level
  • Recorded video and audio
  • One complete take
  • Maximum 15 minutes
  • .mp4 .mov formats

When are the due dates?

1st Round

  • Applications open 01 June
  • Application due 01 November
  • Decision by 14 December
  • Award received Term 1 following year

2nd Round

  • Applications open 01 January
  • Application due 01 April
  • Decision by 01 June
  • Award received Term 3 

How many times can I apply?

  • Each applicant is permitted one application per biannual cycle
  • Each application includes consideration for multiple awards

Application Checklist

  1. Applicant details
  2. Caregiver details
  3. Proof of citizenship (NZ Passport) 
  4. Proof of address (letter or bank statement containing you or your caregiver's address)
  5. Letter of recommendation from school or other teacher
  6. Cover letter explaining why this award is important to you
  7. Previous year tax statement showing annual earning (financial hardship award) or;
  8. Recorded audition according to the audition requirements (outstanding ability award)
